Wellbutrin and Bupropion• Wellbutrin, also known as bupropion hydrochloride, belongs to the aminoketone family of drugs. As with all medications that are used to treat mental afflictions, this drug acts by influencing the concentration of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. Different depression medications act on different neurotransmitters. Wellbutrin is unique because of how it influences the concentrations of dopamine in the brain. Most other antidepressants do not act on dopamine levels. Bupropion works by keeping the levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine, high in the brain.
